Let us take a look at a big player in the nutrition industry, GNC, and their weight-loss product Lean Shake 25.

One of the first things we noticed when reviewing this shake is that, surprisingly, it only has about 9 grams of protein per serving. That is a little low for a protein shake and ideally, it should have between 12 and 17 grams of protein per serving.

Learn which meal replacement shake is right for you.

Description:

Unfortunately, our expectations for this shake were tremendously let down. There are several issues with the shake ranging from the type of protein to the calorie count. First of all, the type of protein used is milk concentrate, which is cheaper than whey concentrate (WPC) and has a higher level of cholesterol.

The shake also does not taste very good because of the low sugar content. Our team tried the vanilla and chocolate flavors and were not impressed with the taste, nor did they find it to be satisfating. The bad taste can also be attributed to the artificial flavoring that the shake uses.

While other meal replacement shakes we tried reduced hunger for a few hours, Lean Shake did not. Because of all of these issues we do not it even classify it as a meal replacement shake.

Top Benefits:

cheap price, decent appetite suppression

Negative:

low protein amount per serving, cheap type of protein with high levels of cholesterol, artificial sweeteners

The non-existent reduction in hunger was especially shocking because the shake does have pretty high calorie content of 180 calories per serving. A high calorie content that does not even stave hunger does not make a very lean shake.

There is one good thing about GNC's Lean Shake and that is certainly the price. It is only $1.87 per serving, or about $35 for the pack. But we would argue that you certainly get what you pay for.

WLT Conclusion:

GNC Lean is not highly recommended. Its high calories make it good for someone with an active fitness life. It is priced reasonably, but as far as protein quality and taste go, it was not impressive. It also did not work well as a hunger blocker.

The most effective product reviewed was found to be 18Shake. It’s a meal replacement that contains high protein, low calories, low sugar, and rich vitamins and minerals which can raise metabolism and burn fat. Customers have said it helped them sustain weight loss without the fear of unwanted side effects.

. Los Angeles

The taste is okay. It's not as good as I had hoped, but it isn't terrible, either.

. Jacksonville

I tried the vanilla and then I tried the strawberry. I wish I'd stuck to the vanilla, because the strawberry was so awful that I had to throw it away. But if you get the vanilla flavor, you'll be pleased with this. It's good for weight loss if you exercise as well and eat sensibly.

. San Diego

It's very, very sweet! A bit too sweet for me but I add almond butter and that gives it a better balance. Overall, it's not too impressive, taste-wise.

. Manhattan Beach

I've tried several other meal replacements and this shake was less expensive and better tasting than any other. I'm not sure if I'd say it's an appetite reducer, but other people might notice a difference. It's sweeter than some shakes but not overly sweet.

. New York

Tastes good but doesn't have enough protein or vitamins to justify using it as a meal replacement shake. I'm looking for something with a higher amount of protein. It's good for making pancakes, though, which is how I normally use it.

. Seattle

After doing lots of research on these to find out which shake is healthiest and tastes the best, I chose this one. The reviews for it were excellent and it seemed like a good value for the money. However, I was surely disappointed after I tried it. The powder clumps together. The taste was horrible enough that I gagged after the first sip. And I felt nauseated after forcing myself to drink a bit more of it. Definitely not a good option for a shake.

. San Francisco

cheap price, good brand. little sweet btw
