Omega XL is a joint health supplement that combines a blend of fatty acids and antioxidants. They even claim that over 30 years of clinical research has supported its inflammation reducing benefits.

The capsules are described as easy to swallow and they say that it is potent and safe to use. Flexitrinol was the best supplement for natural joint health support. The reason we favored it was due to positive reviews, clinical studies on individual ingredients, and the ease of use.

Here’s a great review on Flexitrinol where we help explain what it can offer.

How does Omega XL work?

Through the use of DHA and EPA, both of these fatty acids are used to effectively reduce inflammation which can lead to joint pain.  Their blend is concentrated to ensure that it’s strong and effective.

They use a common blend of ingredients but they add how their formula is different since it comes from a particular seafood extract taken from clean waters in New Zealand. Their claim is that these are the cleanest known waters, which reduces the risk for contamination with any heavy metals. They also add it does not have a fishy aftertaste.

Top Benefits: An easy to understand breakdown is offered as to why this is better than standard fish capsules. Healthy anti-inflammatory ingredients are also used.

Negatives: Many consumers only had negative things to say. A re-occurring auto-billing plan is offered. The company also has many complaints on their Better Business Bureau page.

What’s inside of it and are there side effects?

There’s no explanation why, but they never publish their supplements facts list on the official website. They do say what the “principal ingredients” are, but fail to mention the dosage strength or what the inactive ingredients are.

Fortunately there have been some customers who published an image of the supplements facts to fully review the contents:

Green Lipped Mussel Oil Extract (PCS0-524): Patented form of a mussel which has natural fatty acids that he body can use to help relieve inflammation. This is patented by a company called Lyprinol, and they have performed many studies to help showcase what it can do.

They actually provide their own recommended dosage strength which is different than what is mentioned by Omega XL.

Because it does not have the allergy forming proteins that other forms of seafood may have, it can be used without fear of allergies to customers who can’t eat seafood.

Within this are triglycerides, lipids, and other fatty acids. Technically this patented ingredient comes from a blend of olive oil and vitamin E, but they mention these additives as if they were additional ad ones. It could be that they do add more of it separate from this patented additive, but it’s hard to tell with the spacing on the supplements facts list.

Extra Virgil Olive Oil: An unrefined olive oil extract that is typically used in Mediterranean cooking. Because of its healthy mono and polyunsaturated fats, it can be used to moisturizer skin, privet flavor to foods, and reduce inflammation.

This is better left unheated so it won’t become rancid or create unwanted free radicals. When used in their pure states it can help provide numerous health benefits. Olive oil is considered healthier oil due to its rich antioxidant benefits.

By being extra virgin it means it retains most of its nutritional value since it’s not as processed as other forms of this.

D-alpha Tocopherol (vitamin E): A natural form of vitamin E that has potent antioxidant benefits. This specific version of the vitamin is better absorbed and used by the body. This can help reduce the breakdown of heathy tissue and it can boost overall health.

Vitamin E can also be found naturally in many foods, but this specific version of it is used in order to help add additional support.

Glycerin:  An inactive ingredient that is often used in supplements since it provides a slightly sweet, non-toxic addition. It can help retain moisture and it can help improve skin health.  This is often added to help pills retain their liquid formula intact so it does not dry up or spoil as quickly.

What’s good about Omega XL?

Since this does have fatty acids from good sources, it’s possible it can help reduce inflammation. Fatty acids are a key ingredient which is great for overall health, thereby maximizing wellness.

The creators also offer a long 90 day money back guarantee as long as bottles are purchased direct. They even have a FAQ section where they reveal it can be stored at room temperature, and they also outline the intended key benefits.

The quality of the mussel is also good since it comes from waters in New Zealand which are known for their cleanliness.

After looking at many top ranked supplements for joint health support, we favored the following 10 in this exclusive list.

What’s bad about Omega XL?

The problems are many: the dosage strength is low, many consumers were dissatisfied, and there were many issues with the company itself. They have a grand total of 116 complaints on the Better Business Bureau due to similar issues with the quality of service billing, and with being unable to schedule a return.

Even those who were still under the 90 day warranty were not allowed to get their money back. Some even said that even though they tied to call and email the company would not respond back. Even when messages were left this was a consistent issue.

Because the company has an auto-billing offer, many of those who signed up said that they were continuously charged without their consent. This caused many unapproved charges which came without warning. Many consumers were frustrated and felt that the company was being dishonest by claiming it could be cancelled, and yet many saw that their credit cards were suddenly charged without any due notice.

The major issue with this is that those who tried to call said that they never picked up the phone during regular business hours. So some were unable to get a hold of anyone to try and cancel the auto-shipment plan.

What do consumers think about Omega XL?

Quite a few customers were not pleased with this. Here’s a summary of a few reviews found online:

“Yeah it may work but you can get the same basic formula from many other sources, for me it wasn’t worth the price”

“What a hoax this did nothing for me at all. This is advertised as being the best but it really isn’t”

“Easy to take and I didn’t have any digestive symptoms, good for my needs”

“Took it for a month and I didn’t see the results I was hoping to see so I don’t know about it. Maybe it works for you”

Conclusion

There’s some good and bad to this but overall, it failed to impress. For what’s added you’re only getting a few ingredients. This was higher in price than other brands, and unfortunately made customers were unimpressed since they saw little to no changes in their joint pain. Some said this was not worth the price and that it had no effect even after a full bottle was taken as directed. You also only get a low dosage strength formula with just a few ingredients added.

It is good that there are only natural ingredients, but you can find the same basic additives for much cheaper elsewhere. The added vitamin E and olive oil for example are lower in price when taken directly from food. The patented mussel extract does have rich fatty acids, but it’s added in such a low dose that it’s hard to see how it will affect joint health. The company has also come under fire for issues with billing, lack of returns, and customer service dissatisfaction.

Other solutions do exist with a high dosage strength, studied ingredients, and rave reviews for both the product and company. Flexitrinol for example was rated as the best joint health supplement due to its high demand and studied ingredients.
