There are vague promises that it helps the function of joints and that it reduces inflammation, but instead of laying it out in plain English, the company bombards the consumer with complex technical language in quotes from journals where studies were supposedly done. After poring through this, we found the company claims that the clay inhibits production of chondrocytes, which are a part of the inflammatory response.<\/p>\n

The clay is also supposed to be an important way to detoxify the body of harmful toxins and chemicals that are supposed to have \u201cbuilt up\u201d in the body over time.<\/p>\n

What’s inside of it and are there side effects?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Unlike other products that claim to relieve joint pain and restore movement, this product doesn’t contain any herbal extracts, fish oil, glucosamine, or chondroitin \u2013 the most common ingredients that we’ve seen. Instead, this product is based entirely on a certain type of mineral-rich clay that is supposed to confer health benefits. As such, it doesn’t contain any animal products (many joint health supplements contain extracts from shellfish), nor does it have anything with gluten in it, making it vegan and celiac-friendly.<\/p>\n

The serving size is 3 capsules taken each day, and as each bottle contains 90 pills, one bottle is supposed to last 30 days.<\/p>\n

SierraSil<\/strong>: This ingredient is essentially a clay extracted from the Sierra mountains, referred to as a \u201chydrothermal mineral complex.\u201d Despite being simple, as it is technically one ingredient, it serves a number of purposes.<\/p>\n

The first purpose is as a way to deliver minerals to the body. This clay contains dozens of minerals, some of which could be useful to joint and bone health. Calcium, for example, is a crucial part of bone structure and health, and especially when people (particularly women) begin to age, the processes that keep their bones from losing calcium to their blood stream start to weaken, meaning a calcium supplement is a very important part of the diet when you get older. Stronger bones could also help with joint health by minimizing small cracks and bruises caused by overwork, which could limit inflammation \u2013 but that’s what we’re guessing. It also contains magnesium, which is associated with lower inflammation levels. In addition, it contains manganese, zinc, and iron, all important minerals in daily health.<\/p>\n

The second way it works is due to its physical structure. It’s supposed to be able to \u201cbind\u201d to toxins and heavy metals, making it easier for them to be excreted by the body, thus \u201cridding\u201d you of those toxins.<\/p>\n

What’s good about SierraSil?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

This product contains only mineral content, which means that unlike other joint health supplements, it has no animal products, no fish or shellfish products, and nothing with wheat or soy. This means that this product is likely safe for anyone taking it and will no cause any allergies for anyone. Since it has no animal extracts like bovine gelatin (as some capsules do) it is safe for vegans and vegetarians to use, so they will likely see that as a bonus.<\/p>\n

The company seems to have made an effort to get their product registered and recognized for safety and quality, getting certification from the Worldwide Anti-Doping Agency, Health Canada, as well as a kosher certification for Jewish users. They have also gone to the trouble to have the product tested for its effects in measured trials, instead of relying on immaterial claims like many other products do.<\/p>\n

What’s bad about SierraSil?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The main downside to this product is its one single ingredient. The clay that they claim is such a miraculous healing and joint mobility agent doesn’t really have much evidence proving that it’s an effective remedy. We looked at the studies they posted trying to prove how good this product is for joint health, but most of the studies don’t have to do with joint health at all, focusing instead mainly on \u201csafety\u201d (whether it’s toxic to humans and rats), its ability to lower radiation in cells, and its effect on bacteria. Some tests were done on its ability to affect joint health and pain, and while there was some measurable decrease in \u201cdiscomfort,\u201d it was described as \u201ctemporary\u201d and there were no claims as to how effective it is over other joint pain supplements that make similar claims.<\/p>\n

While they wanted to test this product for effectiveness, they neglected to test it against the usage of other joint supplements, and so despite there being \u201cimprovement,\u201d we don’t actually know how much more effective it is than the competition. The truth is that, in the end, we can’t tell from these tests how much this product really works.<\/p>\n

Another problem is that SierraSil doesn’t have much of a presence online, including no Better Business Bureau profile, so we have no sources to tell us what their customer service history has been like, and if consumers have been pleasure with their experiences with the business.<\/p>\n
